Why you’ll love this recipe
They’re so much quicker to make than regular dumplings. There’s no time spent carefully folding and pleating individual dumplings – simply roll the filling up in rice paper and use scissors to cut it into bite-size pieces. These crispy rice paper dumplings can be ready to eat in under 30 minutes, making them the perfect speedy snack.
They’re delicious served in lots of different ways. Try these crispy dumpling bites with a peanut lime sauce, a simple soy sauce and black vinegar dip, or drizzled with lots of chilli oil – or even all three.
They’re vegan! These vegan rice paper dumplings use vegan sausage meat instead of pork. Simply remove the casing from your favourite vegan pork-style sausages and mix the sausage meat with the flavourings. Easy!
They’re made in the air fryer. No need for messy deep frying – these rice paper dumpling bites cook quickly in the air fryer and come out perfectly golden and crispy.

How to make crispy air fryer rice paper dumpling bites
Start by making the vegan dumpling filling. Add the vegan sausage meat, garlic, ginger, soy sauce, mirin, spring onions and sugar to a bowl. Mix until everything is well combined.

Quickly dip a sheet of rice paper in water and lay it on a plate. Dollop one quarter of the vegan pork-style filling around 2cm from the bottom of the rice paper, shaping it into a log and leaving around 1cm clear on each side. Fold in the sides, then roll everything up into a log. Set aside and repeat with the remaining rice paper and filling.
Use clean kitchen scissors to snip the logs into bite-size pieces.

Arrange the rice paper dumpling bites in the air fryer, making sure they aren’t touching. Brush or spray generously with oil, then air fry at 200°C for 13–15 minutes until golden and crispy, flipping halfway through.
Serve immediately with your favourite dipping sauce and a generous drizzle of chilli oil, if you fancy.
What to serve with rice paper dumplings
These crispy air fryer dumplings are delicious on their own as a snack, but they’re even better with plenty of dipping sauce. I love serving them with a simple mix of soy sauce and Chinese black vinegar, but a creamy peanut lime sauce would also be delicious. Why not try my peanut lime sauce from my crispy tofu bowls recipe.
You could also serve these vegan rice paper dumplings as part of a bigger Asian-inspired meal with rice, noodles, cucumber salad or some steamed greens.
And honestly, lots of chilli oil is never a bad idea.

Can I make these rice paper dumplings in advance?
These crispy air fryer rice paper dumplings are definitely best eaten straight from the air fryer while the rice paper is still hot and crunchy.
You can make the vegan dumpling filling ahead of time and keep it covered in the fridge, then simply roll up and air fry the dumplings when you’re ready to eat.
I wouldn’t recommend soaking and rolling the rice paper too far in advance as it can become soft and sticky.
Tips for perfectly crispy rice paper dumplings
Don’t soak the rice paper for too long. A quick dip in water is enough, it will continue softening as you fill and roll it.
Use plenty of oil. Brushing or spraying the rice paper generously with oil is key to getting those crispy, golden edges in the air fryer.
Don’t overcrowd the air fryer. Make sure the dumpling bites aren’t touching so the hot air can circulate around them properly.
Eat them straight away. Like most crispy air fryer foods, these are at their absolute best fresh from the air fryer.
