Kefir breakfast bowl: nutrition
This recipe includes eight different plant foods in one bowl alongside kefir which has great probiotic properties and over thirty strains of bacteria and yeasts. This all works together to improve your digestion, alongside many other benefits.
Kefir is not only delicious but an amazing source of nutrients. Kefir is a fermented drink traditionally made using milk. It is full of good bacteria, or probiotics. Increasing the diversity of good bacteria in your gut improves your gut health.
Improved gut health has been linked with better immunity, lower blood pressure, improved blood sugar control and better cholesterol levels. Other amazing fermented foods to help improve your gut health include kimchi, kombucha, sauerkraut and greek yoghurt.
Nuts are a fantastic addition to any diet. Each nut boasts its own benefits. Almonds are a source of fibre, healthy monounsaturated fats, protein and other nutrients, including vitamin E. Brazil nuts, as well as having many similar benefits to almonds, are high in selenium which is vital for thyroid and immune system function.

Is kefir dairy?
Traditionally kefir is made using dairy milk but it is possible to make dairy-free kefir. Coconut kefir a great dairy free alternative and has the same probiotic benefits as kefir made using dairy milk. Why not try Cocos organic coconut Kefir?
Other ways to include kefir in your meals
As I have already explained kefir is a fantastic food and a great addition to your diet. A breakfast bowl, however, is just one way to enjoy it. Here are some other ways to include kefir in your diet:
- Drink it – kefir drinks now come in lots of flavours and are yummy enough to be drunk on their own
- Add it to your smoothies – replace some of the liquid in your smoothies with kefir – it tastes great with berries and makes them extra thick and creamy
- Eat it with cereal – instead of pouring milk over your morning bowl of meusli why not try pouring over some kefir. It tastes great with granola
- Try adding it into pancake or waffle batter
- Add it to your overnight oats – replace some milk with a dash of kefir for creamy and delicious oats
- Bake with it – instead of adding yoghurt or milk into baking recipes, such as bread or cakes, why not swap in some kefir?
