Ingredients

  • 500g/17½oz frozen French fries
  • 250g/9oz beef mince I used vegan mince
  • 2 tsp vegetable oil
  • sliced pickles for garnish
  • ketchup
American cheese sauce
  • tbsp plain flour
  • tbsp butter
  • ¾ cup whole milk
  • 45g/2½oz Cheddar grated
  • 70g/1½oz slices American cheese grated
Burger sauce
  • 5 tbsp mayonnaise
  • tbsp ketchup
  • 3 tbsp dill pickles drained and finely chopped
  • 4 tsp dijon mustard
  • tsp garlic powder

Method

  1. Start by making the cheese sauce. In a medium sauce pan melt the butter over a medium heat. Stir through the flour and cook for 30 seconds.
  2. Gradually add in the milk, stirring constantly. Simmer for a couple of minutes until thickened.
  3. Lower the heat and stir through the grated Cheddar and American cheese until melted.
  4. Take off the heat, cover, and set aside.
  5. Cook your fries in the oven, according to package instructions.
  6. Meanwhile, heat the vegetable oil in a large frying pan over a medium heat. Add in the mince and fry, stirring often, until cooked through and crispy in places. This will take around 7-8 minutes. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
  7. Whilst the mince cooks, combine the ingredients for the burger sauce in a small bowl.
  8. Once the fries are cooked, season them with salt and tip into a serving bowl. Gently reheat the cheese sauce.
  9. Load up the fries with the cheese sauce, fried mince, burger sauce, pickles, and ketchup.
